AFT ACNE THERAPY
Acne Vulgaris is a common condition that affects many people of varying age groups but mostly adolescents. Today, acne suffers can choose a gentle, natural light treatment to add too or replace traditional medical therapies. The Harmony AFT uses a specialized blue light to treat acne effectively.
How Can Light Treat Acne?
Advanced Fluorescence Technology (AFT) allows clinicians to use light to treat a variety of dermal conditions safely. With AFT treatments the handpiece is passed over the skin, releasing gentle pulses of light into the skin. The AFT light heats the sebaceous gland and either destroys the gland and/or destroys the bacteria within the gland.
What are the treatments like?
Treatments are fast, safe and relatively painless. AFT allows clinicians to treat the desired area with minimal epidermal (skin) damage. Treatments feel like a gentle rubber band snapping on the face. The time to cover the average face is approximately 10-15 minutes. Downtime is virtually eliminated. One can easily have a treatment done over the lunch hour.
How long will a course of treatments take?
Every person is unique, even in the treatment of acne. The average treatment course would consist of 8-12 treatments done once to twice per week.
Is anyone a candidate for treatment?
Most people can be treated with AFT treatments however there are a few specific cases where treatments are not advised. Individuals who are photosensitive or who are on photosensitizing medications should not undergo AFT therapy. People who have been on Accutane need to be off the medication for 6 months prior to AFT treatments. Anyone who is pregnant should wait until after the pregnancy to have AFT treatments.
What are the risks?
Advances in technology allow clinicians to treat affected areas of the body with little or no damage to the surrounding skin. Side effects are rare but include hypo/hyperpigmentation, blistering, redness and scarring. Sun exposed affects the rate of complications. It is imperative that individuals minimize their sun exposure for 4 weeks prior to and following treatments.
